Oooh! We’re not liking all this miserable weather we’re having in our World! Such a difference to last week π You may have seen on our Facebook page that when I get fed up, I also get a little naughty! π But I’m not the only one as Harry and Robbie have been up to some tricks too, it’s just that they never get caught! Our Friday cat said she’s much too mature for such shenanigans, and decided to have a sleep on my favourite pink cushion instead π
But along with being naughty, we decided to try some new experiences too, just to confuse our hoomins! π Of course, you will know that Harry, Robbie and Friday are allowed in the big garden….
Whilst Lula and I enjoy our cat garden
So what’s wrong with this pic? I was trying to disguise myself as Harry, but I don’t think I’m fooling anyone? π
But then – worse than all of that – Robbie had the cheek to come into my territory! π― Doesn’t he know that’s not allowed? π
But I decided to be generous and let him stay for a while – after all, it is a great place to hang out and we’ll need to share with Annie when she joins us and is old enough to go outside π I might as well get used to sharing now, don’t you think?
Β ~ This post is dedicated to the memory of our dear friend,Β Linda Carlisle Jenson. We were deeply saddened to learn of her unexpected passing. ~
~ Rest in peace, Linda ~
Hello my friends, Spot here!
Our weather still continues to be a bit naughty, most days are still quite windy and rainy – we hope that Spring will be here soon! But we were thinking that we are such lucky cats because even when the weather is bad, we still have so many wonderful places to hang out!
First of all, there is the very first cat tree that my mummy and daddy ever bought – long before any of us five were even born! It did have another bit on the top, but that has long since disappeared, it still makes a great place for us to sit on and either sleep or watch the world go by outside though!
Then, when we want something a little bigger, the second cat tree they bought is now also in the conservatory so it makes a great place to scratch on, play on, sleep on and of course watch the outside world on! It too has missing bits, but we don’t mind π
But of course, for ultimate luxury, nothing beats our new Tigga Towers tree! It’s so comfy and there are lots of different places to chill out in or on!
And of course, when the weather gets a bit nicer, we also have lots of places in our cat garden to sit on!
As I said at the beginning, I think we are very lucky cats indeed! π
Wow! Our mummy and daddy are good to us kitties! You might remember in a recent blog, I said that my mummy came home one day with lots of packages – we weren’t allowed to look at them because they were a surprise … Well, I can tell you, it was worth the wait because what a wonderful surprise it was! We got a brand new, top quality cat tree!
It’s from Tigga Towers – the very best quality cat trees you can buy! You might know that we had quite a nice cat tree already….
But if you look closely, it’s starting to wear out a bit – connecting parts are broken so some of the platforms aren’t on it and the carpet is getting quite threadbare in places…
So when that tree was moved and a new, solid oak base put in its place, we were quite curious!
Then a few more bits appeared…
And some gorgeous, squishy cushions and wonderful wicker baskets soon came out of the hiding place…
And – even more exciting – this was followed by some squidgy catnip toys too! They think of everything, don’t they?
While we’d been busy inspecting all of these, my Daddy had been busy building the tree – it didn’t take long at all! But we said to him it looked odd with a hole in the platform – they must have bought a faulty item and should ask for a refund! π―
But when the gorgeous squishy cover went on it, it was soon clear it was designed like that for a very good reason – our ultimate comfort! Which Friday immediately realised to be the case (she might be getting on in years, but she’s not stupid) – and she soon made herself comfortable, despite the fact the tree was still being built! π
But it didn’t take many more minutes for my Daddy to finish it off and pretty soon Robbie had joined Friday to check it out!
Lula decided to check out the igloo at the top – she likes to be up high!
And it wasn’t long before I joined them!
We love our new tree! Such quality that will last for years and won’t get threadbare like our old one – yay!
How time flies! We’re coming to the end of the first week of our advent calendar already π We hope you’re enjoying it so far π
Today’s phrase is going to be illustrated by little Friday cat but it probably won’t be obvious just by looking at her photo:
We’ll put you out of your suspense and let you know that today’s phrase is one that you will all have heard of: A cat has nine lives. We chose Friday to demonstrate this phrase because she’s certainly used up a few of hers over the years!
But where does it come from? It’s due to the fact that usΒ cats are more tenacious of life than many animals; we’re careful and hardy, and after a fall we generally land on our feet without injury, the foot and toes being well padded. Shakespeare used this in “Romeo and Juliet” as below:
Tyb: What wouldst thou have with me?
Mer: Good king of cats, nothing but one of your nine lives.
Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet, III, i.
I think Shakespeare would have liked to have met me and Lula and the rest of the gang, don’t you? I’m sure we could have inspired him to have more kitties in his plays π
Enjoy the rest of your Caturday and take care my friends!
I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend, we’ve spent most of it indoors because the weather has just been quite damp and miserable. Β We do like being nice and snuggled indoors, like on the cuddle pics we share last time, but it does make us a bit bored and sometimes a bit naughty too!
So I thought I’d share with you my thoughts on ten things kitties shouldn’t do… but we do anyway! π
1. We shouldn’t climb into household appliances. This can be very dangerous so you should always check them before you switch them on.
2. We shouldn’t bite our sister! π Luckily I was a kitten and only had baby teeth at the time!
3. We shouldn’t stand on frozen ponds, we don’t know how thick the ice is, Robbie!
4. We shouldn’t pull all the towels onto the floor and then use them as a bed to sleep on!
5. We shouldn’t escape into the big garden and then run around and not let our hoomins catch us! π
6. We shouldn’t have our back to the camera when our hoomins are trying to take a photo of us!
7. We shouldn’t steal Daddy’s bit of the couch when he wants to sit down…
8. We shouldn’t try and sneak up on our friends when they’re up the tree!
9. We shouldn’t go hunting for all the baby frogs and toads in the pond like little Friday loves to do!
10. We shouldn’t attempt to mow the lawn
I’m sure there are lots more things your kitties do that they shouldn’t? Feel free to share in the comments π
I hope you’re all well π Now the clocks have gone back, I can’t believe how quickly it gets dark around here! So I thought I’d try and brighten up your day by sharing some of the reasons I think you love cats so much… because I’m guessing you do, otherwise why would you be reading a feline blog?? π
1. You love us because we like to do impressions of things we see around us.
2. You love us because we keep the bed warm for you when you’re not in it
3. You love us because we like to check things are ok in the garden
4. You love us because we are very clean and like to look our best!
5. You love us because we like to sing to you!
6. You love us because we chase all the nasty bugs away
7. You love us because we keep watch over the territory
8. You love us because we like to make sure things are ok with the trees
9. Β You love us because we “help” with the gardening
10. Last, but not least, you love us because we are just so cute!
I think these are only a few of the reasons why you love us cats, I’m sure you could think of some more? π
I don’t want to alarm you but Lula and I are worrying our mummy… we’ve been so well behaved for a record time (at least a week!) that she’s wondering if we’re coming down with something! π― Purrsonally I think she should count herself lucky, especially when I think back to all the naughty things we’ve done, and how much trouble we can cause when we want to…
So here’s my top 7 list of my favourite naughty tricks, I’ll start off at number 7 and make my way up to the naughtiest thing we ever did! I wonder if you can think what it was? No peeking now! π
Number 7: The Cows
We start off with a time when we were allowed free access outside, when we used to love going in the big field. Our favourite naughty thing then was to tease the cows! π We would go up to them, very close, and stare at them and then if they tried to chase us, we would run very quickly into the safety of our garden π
Number 6: The Big Oak Tree
Lula and I were very adventurous even from a young age and it didn’t take us long to work out the attraction of the big oak tree, and how cool it was to climb it! Mind you, we worried our mummy very much the first few times we went up it as we were so small and the tree is so big! We don’t know why, we were purrfectly safe!
Number 5: The Garage Roof
Sticking with being up high, one of my best tricks is when I decided to climb up onto the garage roof! My mummy and daddy still have no idea how I did it as there’s nothing nearby that could help me get up there… my lips are sealed my friends!
Number 4: Friday and the Chicken
I told you about this one in a recent blog post, and it just goes to show that it’s not only us Bengals who are naughty! In case you haven’t read our other post, our Friday, who is a quite small little thing, decided one day to steal daddy’s chicken that he had left out ready to cook for his dinner! It was on the worktop and he turned his back for one minute: next thing, Friday jumps up there, grabs the chicken – which was almost bigger than she was – jumps down, and runs off into the garden with it! Then daddy realised and chased after her, but off she ran with this chicken hanging out of both sides of her mouth, into the field and into the bramble bush where daddy couldn’t get her π π All daddy could do was listen as she crunched and ate his dinner!
So…. we’re more than halfway through now! I wonder if you know what will be in the top 3?
Number 3: Jumping out of Upstairs Windows
Lula and I have both done this very recently. Mind you, when I did it, it wasn’t my fault as the man who came to measure up for new windows left my mummy and daddy’s bedroom window wide open, so what else was I supposed to do, other than jump out of it? π
Lula’s escape out of the window was much more sneaky and dangerous – she somehow got through a very small gap and was perched on the windowsill, looking ready to jump down about 15 feet! Daddy just managed to get to her in time and bring her back inside!
We don’t have a pic of either of these occasions, but we did show in this photo how much we like being on window ledges, though this one was at ground level! π
Number 2: Lula and the Road
This was a very worrying one for my mummy and daddy and the reason why our freedom was curbed and our cat garden built. We live in the countryside, but have a busy road in the vicinity of our house. It is quite a long way in cat terms, and none of the cats that have been part of the family, past or present, have ever gone as far as the road… until Lula did one day! She was chasing bees and butterflies and was oblivious to the dangers nearby. Needless to say, it worried mummy and daddy very much, and since that day Lula has never been allowed outside other than in the cat garden or on her harness (other than on the couple occasions when she’s managed to escape).
It’s such a shame as the field is great for us cats to run and play in, but the risk of it happening again was much too great and our safety has to come first.
So here we are at number one! Did you guess correctly what it was? Here is where I reveal all!
Number 1: The Chimney!
Oh yes! We like to explore anywhere and everywhere, so why not the chimney? It’s all dark and mysterious – purrfect for a curious Bengal cat! One day, when our hoomins were out, we thought we heard a birdie in the chimney, so that was it – we were up there like a shot!
When my mummy came home, she looked at me and she knew something was different about me, but she couldn’t quite work out what it was, she was very puzzled! Then she looked at Lula, and it was much easier to tell looking at her fur because, instead of being a beautiful snow colour, it was black! π― She then went into our lounge and saw the evidence! Black sooty paw prints all over the cream carpet and big blobs of soot near the chimney too!
Well, she didn’t even stop to make a cup of tea! (very unusual!). She whisked us both off into the bathroom and gave us both a bath! We do like water, but we weren’t really in the mood for a bath if we’re honest! But then the worst part was, because the first bath didn’t get all the soot out, she gave us another bath the next day too! The cheek of it! Here’s a pic of us after our baths π
So there you have it! Seven of the naughtiest things we have done… so far!! Ha! What else will we get up to in the future…..??
A little while ago, I posted seven pics and facts about our Robbie cat, and lots of you asked if I could do the same for Friday and for Harry π Your wish is our command, so here are seven pics and facts about our little tabby girl π
Friday was born in March 1998, in the rescue shelter. She had two brothers and no sisters. Β
She’s called Friday because she ate some of her mummy’s food when she was a baby, it got lodged in her throat and the vet (who lived nearby) had to rush out to her and save her life – all this happened on Good Friday.
Friday is the smallest of our cats, weighing 3.1kg or 6.8 pounds.
Friday is also the most affectionate of all our cats and will follow mummy around wherever she goes π
She likes sunbathing in the warm weather but rarely goes out in the winter now she’s getting on in years.
Friday has used up a few of her 9 lives, in her younger days she once went missing for 2 weeks and on another occasion came back from wherever she had been with a broken leg – resulting in yet another rushed visit to the vet!
She can also be naughty when she wants to – she once jumped on the kitchen counter when daddy’s back was turned, picked up in her mouth a chicken which daddy was about to put in the oven, and ran off into the field with it, with daddy closely on her heels! It was very funny to watch – the chicken was almost as big as she was! π
Here’s some of our favourite Friday photos π
I hope you enjoyed our little look at Friday – Harry will be coming up soon! π
I hope you’re all well π Lula and I are looking forward to the good weather we’re promised over the next few days, though Lula will be at her next show on Caturday, so I’ll have the cat garden all to myself!
Friday goes in there sometimes – she doesn’t need the hoomins to open the gate for her as she can fit through the gap between the gate and the wall π― Β Harry and Robbie could come in our cat garden if they wanted to, but they prefer the freedom of the big garden and the field π Last time Robbie went in there, my mummy didn’t notice and he ended up being stuck in there for a couple of hours! He was OK, but he was ready to come out when my mummy realised where he was π
Speaking of Harry, Robbie and Friday, I promised you last time that I would do 7 photos of them to make you smile, so I hope these ones are to your satisfaction!
What a lovely Caturday we’re having! I can’t believe that only a week ago, our cat garden still had a good covering of snow on it:
Today? A completely different Caturday! The sun is shining, there’s hardly a cloud in the sky and the winds we’ve been having have calmed down too! I think I might even forgo some of my cat naps to make the most of this weather π
I can watch the world (and the birdies) go by from on the roof of our cat house!
Whilst Lula still loves those scratching posts!
And the other cats don’t miss out on the opportunity for some lovely fresh air either!
Little Friday can get a good view of the field from the top of the fence post.
Robbie chills out on the patio
Whilst Harry ponders whether or not to explore in the field!
I’m sure we’ll all be ready for a nice dinner and catnap later on though!
I hope you’re all enjoying your weekend as much as we are π
Love from Spot
