Cat Show Update :)

Hello my friends, Spot here!

As you may have already seen, Lula and Spike were at the cat show yesterday 🙂 It was a long day and I didn’t get much of a chance to update our Facebook page when everyone got home, so as promised, here’s the full report! 🙂

It was yet another early start… the hoomins woke us all up at 3:45 in the morning 😯 I really couldn’t decide between eating some breakfast or staying asleep! So in the end I had a few mouthfuls and then went back to bed – the best of both worlds 🙂 (It was dry food, so there was plenty left down to keep us going through the day).

As soon as everyone was ready, they all went off to in the car which meant that Annie and I could be naughty good cats at home 😆 But you don’t want to know about us, this is all about Lula and Spike! (Phew! Our secrets are safe, Annie!) 🙂

After a little diversion to pick up Sue, our breeder and the Duty Vet at the show, they were soon well on the way to Warwickshire in the heart of the UK. They were one of the first there so daddy looked after Lula and Spike whilst mummy set up her trade stand. They were both soon settled in their double pens:

What’s that on the floor?

Pretty soon more and more people started arriving and the large hall filled up. This was a double show with nearly 550 cats entered, so it was one of the largest ones of the year.

They also had an option that we’d not seen in other double shows previously, but that we think is an excellent idea! You could enter one or both shows in full, but there was also the option to enter one in full and the title class only in the 2nd show. So this is what mummy did for us! It saves on the amount of times we’re handled and the title class is the most important one.

As the clock struck 10am, all the human owners were asked to leave their pens so that morning judging could commence. Under GCCF rules, they’re allowed to stay in the hall and browse round the trade stands, but are not allowed to be with their cats in the morning as judging is meant to be anonymous for the title classes especially which are the ones that take place in the morning 🙂

Luckily, mummy’s trade stand was very close to both Spike and Lula’s pens, and daddy managed to get this pic of Lula being judged! You can see her talking at the judge in the pic! The lady holding her is the judge’s steward, the lady with her back to us is the actual judge. Overall, though, despite being chatty, Lula was very well behaved so my mummy and daddy were very pleased.

Shhh, Lula! 🙂

Then it was an anxious wait for the results, and they were worth the wait!

Lula didn’t get placed in either of her Olympian classes, but this was pretty much expected. It is the top and toughest class, and she was up against 10 other female neuter cats, of all breeds. However, she did win Best of Breed in one show, so the hoomins were very pleased with that and she came 3rd in both her side classes which was quite nice and she did get some nice yellow rosettes as a result 🙂

Spike, however, had a stunning performance… He’s no longer in the kitten classes, so is now aiming to qualify as a Premier cat (to compare, Lula’s title is Imperial Grand Premier). He needs 3 Premier certificates from 3 different judges to earn the title and he managed to beat another fantastic boy to win his certificate in both shows yesterday! So he only needs one more and he will be a Premier! He then also won Best of Breed in one show, beating 6 other great cats, and won his side classes! Wow! Not sure how impressed he was with all that though….

Yum yum!

But then, towards the very end of the show, the hoomins learned of even more exciting news! In one of the shows, Spike won Best Foreign Neuter! In a cat show there are different categories of breeds, and in the ‘Foreign’ section there are lots of breeds as well as Bengals. There are Egyptian Mau, Sphinx, Abyssinians, Russian Blue, Cornish and Devon Rexes, Tonkinese, Snowshoe … and others too! So out of all the male and female neuters from all of those breeds, many of them with titles already, Spike was judged to be the Best of Variety! 🙂 This is quite amazing for a 10 month old, and Sue said he was the youngest of her cats so far to do so! Proud? You betcha! 🙂

Spike was already in Lula’s pen by this time as it was getting towards the end of the show when it was announced, but here’s his pen with his Best Foreign Neuter rosette and his 2 premier certificates.

Has Spike turned into a lilac catnip mouse? 🙂

So after all that excitement, it was soon time to pack up and hit the road for the journey home, via Sue’s house again 🙂

But there is a twist in this ‘tail’ my friends! All us other cats hadn’t been forgotten because daddy had bought us a lovely present from the show! We didn’t know about it until the next morning because it was too late when they got home to sort it out….

Daddy had bought us a lovely extension to our Tigga Towers cat tree! That’s one of the many wonderful things about Tigga Towers trees – you can buy as much or as little as you like, and then add to the tree over time if you wish as they are modular and easy to extend!

Annie and I are in the new part, whilst Spike’s in what used to be the highest perch 🙂 There’s also a new hammock to hang from one of the perches but we’ve not had that fitted yet 🙂

So a great weekend has been had by all! We hope yours has been equally as nice 😉

Take care my friends!

Love from Spot

xxxxxxxx

  1. Another marvelous performance by my favourite Bengal babies! That include you and Annie Sir Spot <3 What a great day for young Spike. You've taught the peskies well my friend. Lula's in tough for Olympian but it will come! ♥♥♥

  2. What a great day all round. Wonderful results for both Spike and Lula. Spike is sure taking this Show business all in his stride and seems well on the way to even greater heights. Can understand too, how tough it is at the top for Lula to make her Olympian title and prove that Bengals are the best ! Keep at it sweetie, you’ll get that prestigious title in the end.
Your Mum and Dad, and Sue too of course, must be over the moon when getting these results. They need praise too for presenting the kits in such fine condition.
BTW was so happy to hear you left-at-home kitties behaved yourselves while looking after the house. And what a lovely surprise with that addition to the cat tree. Did it come in some nice new boxes for you to share too ?
