Bengal Cat World Advent Calendar – Day Six

Hello my friends, Spot here!

I hope you’ve had a nice week, not long to go now until the weekend! Yay! My favourite day is Caturday 🙂

If you’ve been following our blog recently, you’ll know that we’re doing a special daily Advent Calendar! Each day we’re exploring different feline phrases – finding out about their origin and sharing a pic to illustrate it 🙂  Harry decided he wants to illustrate it today, though we think you’ll guess what it is quite easily 🙂

You don’t need me to tell you that today’s phrase is put/set the cat among the pigeons! This is quite self-explanatory for its meaning: to say or do something that makes a lot of people very angry.

It’s thought it originates from colonial India when they would deliberately put cats into a dovecote and take bets to see how many birds the cat could catch with the swipe of a paw – that sounds like quite a lot of fun to me, but my mummy said they don’t do things like that any more as it’s quite cruel…. I suppose pigeons have feelings too! 🙂

We hope you’ll come back tomorrow to see what phrase we share then!

Take care my friends!

Love from Spot

xxxxx

  1. I can’t say I care for pigeons particularly, as they shite all over everything, but that was a bit cruel to be putting the cat in with them 🙁

  2. And again I learn something new!

My great aunt Peg used to feed the pigeons on the windowsill of her flat in London – she had a big sea-chest full of seed for them. I always felt sorry for the people walking along the street below, though ;).

    1. Oooh yes! I dread to think what was dropped on their heads 🙂 Let’s pretend it was just excess seed, John 😆 😈 xx

  3. Your mummy is so true Spot, you need to be kind to pigeons now days 😯 . Sweet Harry so lovely he is amongst the pigeons, he seems quite kind and sweet to them 😉
